Hi, I’m Mike. I hail from the high desert of Reno, NV. I’ve been riding bikes for as long as I can remember. We would ride the unpaved desert roads around where I lived, just exploring.  Since leaving Reno, I’ve based where I live mostly on not having to get around via car because I don’t drive. I really caught onto riding in Oakland, CA, and that was where I got my first bike job.  I have been working on bikes since 2004; my favorite bikes to work on tend to be the well-weathered, hard-worked ones. I like working in small community-oriented shops, which is how I ended up at the Community Bike Shop. I really like places that put community first.

I love riding bikes; my commute is often my favorite part of the day, even in the rain. In fact, I kind of like riding in the rain. It’s peaceful, and gives you some bragging rights. Some of my favorite rides around here are Dixie Mountain Road, Bald Peak, and various other steep and rough dirty roads. Stop by the shop sometime and ask me about them.

Cole Succi- Bike tech

My name is Cole. I originally hail from Florida, though the bike industry has taken me quite a few places. I learned to ride a bike at 4 years old on a Ross BMX. No training wheels, just my dad gently pushing me into an empty baseball diamond. There were some minor scrapes and bruises, but those moments were the beginning of a life built around two wheels, steel, and some rubber. I continued to ride BMX into my teens, and then slowly but surely found my way into other disciplines in my late teens. From road racing to fixed gear criteriums, from food delivery to social rides, I couldn’t seem to shake the bike bug.

Right before I turned 21, I got my first gravel grinder and took my first dirt bike tour through Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona. Upon returning to Florida, broke and covered in trail dust, I stumbled into my neighborhood shop for a tube. One thing led to another and a couple weeks later I was working my first shift in a bike shop. Alongside a great team and a fearless leader, I received the best education I could have ever hoped for. Two years later, with far more wisdom than when I started, I left ZenCog Bicycles in Jacksonville, FL to go north and spend a summer working as a mechanic in Skagway, Alaska. After two years of raw wilderness and endless trails, I found my way south again and ended up in the bike capital of the US; Portland, Oregon. I have always loved high volume/small crew shops, which led me to get hired at the legendary VeloCult Bike Shop in the Hollywood neighborhood of Portland. It ended up being a stepping stone since it closed soon after I was hired. That’s when WashCo Bikes found me through the grapevine. After seeing the space, and hearing the mission, I knew that this was the future of bike shops and a place I needed to be.
